The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Obesity is calling for the Government to take a new approach to tackling obesity through prevention and treatment.

PLMR Healthcomms acts as the secretariat of the APPG on Obesity and is funded through sponsorship provided by Slimming World. Any companies involved in the APPG have no influence over the secretariat or work of the APPG on Obesity, and the officers of the APPG on Obesity have full editorial control over, and responsibility for, the APPG’s work programme and activities.

The particular policy objectives of the Group are:

  •  Generate a public policy environment where obesity is recognised and prioritised by politicians and the NHS.

  • Work with stakeholders to develop and deliver preventive strategies for people at risk of obesity.

  • Hold government to account for the timely delivery of a robust obesity strategy.

  • Call for joined up commissioning that addresses all aspects of obesity, and creates a pathway that delivers value for money.

  • Use events, debates and other parliamentary means to provide focus across key elements of the pathway for obesity, including prevention and treatment.
