Childhood Obesity and the Food Environment (Part Two) Virtual Panel Discussion: The Commercial Determinants of Childhood Obesity

The Obesity All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) will convene a virtual panel discussion to mark the launch of its forthcoming policy paper on the childhood food environment, focusing on the role of commercial determinants.

Chaired by Mary Glindon MP, Chair of the APPG on Obesity, the session will feature contributions from clinicians, academics and charities.

Commercial Determinants

The discussion will explore how retail and marketing environments shape children's diets, considering the prominence and promotion of HFSS food in shops and online, the marketing techniques (including influencer content, sponsorship and packaging) that children are exposed to across digital and traditional media, and how these environments widen inequalities in diet and health.

What next?

The discussion will reflect on the paper's findings, highlight emerging evidence, and consider opportunities for coordinated action across retail regulation, advertising standards and public health.

The session will take place on the 21st October, 2-3pm. If you are interested in attending, please contact obesityappg@plmr.co.uk to register your place.
