Obesity APPG launches the House of Lords Food, Diet and Obesity Committee Report jointly with the Health APPG

On the 24th of October 2024, the Food, Diet and Obesity Committee, Chaired by Baroness Walmsley, an Officer of the Obesity APPG published their report, Recipe for health: a plan to fix our broken food system.

Drawing on a wide range of evidence, the Committee painted a detailed picture of a system under strain. Highly processed, calorie dense foods dominate the market and are more readily available and affordable than healthier options. At the same time, marketing strategies, pricing structures, and retail environments consistently favour less nutritious choices particularly in communities already facing disadvantage. While awareness of healthy eating has grown, the broader environment has not kept pace, leaving many individuals without the practical means to act on that knowledge.

To launch the report, on the 14th of November, the APPG held an event in the Attlee Suite in the Houses of Parliament. This event was attended by over 120 people, including the 20 parliamentarians and government officials. This event bought significant momentum to the important report, with the strong turnout demonstrating the depth of cross-party interest and the urgency of addressing obesity through meaningful change.
